Without Borders Book One

Pediatrician Wes Gordon will do just about anything to escape his grief. When opportunity knocks, he signs on to work at a hospital in a tent camp in Haiti. One night while returning to his quarters, he comes across a gang of kids attempting to set fire to an underage rentboy and intervenes, taking the injured René under his wing. At the hospital, diplomat Anthony Crowley tells Wes that the kids involved in the attack are from prominent families and trying to hold them responsible will cause a firestorm.

In spite of the official position Anthony must take, Wes’s compassion captures his attention. Anthony pursues him, and they grow closer during the stolen moments between Anthony’s assignments, escaping earthquake destruction for glimpses of Caribbean paradise. When Wes realizes the only way to save René is to adopt him, Anthony is supportive, but time is running out Wes must leave the country, and Anthony is called out on a dangerous secret mission. Now Wes must face adopting a boy from Haiti who has no papers without the support of the one person he’s come to rely on most and may never see again.

It's no surprise to me that all the reviews of this amazing book are 5-star reviews. I cannot think of many books more deserving of 5 stars than this one.

I must admit that I'm an Andrew Grey fan. Not all his books are brilliant, some are merely good. But this one is definitely one of his best.

A doctor, recovering from a devastating personal loss, immerses himself in helping the most hopeless in a devastated Haiti. One boy really gets to him - a bright 16-year-old whom he saves from immolation - about to be set on fire because the kid is gay, as is the young pediatrician. This book is about the travails of saving this kid and trying to bring him home to America to give him a real chance at life - and the love he finds, in the process.

It is a beautiful book, though the subject is certainly not. There's crushing poverty, the death of children who might have been saved with the proper resources, a corrupt country fed on privation. It's about what happens to gay people in the many societies where they are both outcasts and considered fair game.

And it is about love, Andrew Grey's specialty.

If you read no other M/M romance this year, by all means read this one. It is lovingly and beautifully written, the characters are all three-dimensional, and the situations as real as the headlines in today's papers.

Thanks you, Mr. Grey, for another staggering, wonderful book.

Your heart will break and be mended over and over again. This book is a testament to the positive effect one person can make in this world. I LOVED each character and I hope to read Sandy's story one say.
I am a big fan of Mr. Grey. But this book A Heart Without Borders, the title itself tells the story. Truly amazing I love this story and hope to read Rene's story soon. Maybe in Rene's story we will get a little more insight to Anthony's background. I am from Haiti and reading this story reminded me of two things the need for the Wess in this world and also the treatment of anyone that is different. Thank you Mr. Grey for this story I have recommended to a few friends. You are truly a gifted writer. I will be the first in line for Rene's story when it comes out. (just a hint)
loves there when least expected ,just great
This is another winner from author Andrew Grey.

I imagine the struggle to create decent medical care for the people of Haiti in the aftermath of it's terrible tragedy to be very much as Mr. Grey described. The thought of someone, anyone trying to give a better life to anyone in such a desperate situation brings joy to my heart. In this instance, a young boy was saved and I loved it!
when you've read one Andrew Grey, you've pretty much read them all. And yet his characters stay with you. i find myself wondering how Wally and Kota are doing, or eli and Geoff. what Grey does is reveal gay men as humans, flawed, loving, and capable of commitment. in the end, there's family.

then there's the sex, Grey takes huge risks as he takes us into the bedroom. No holds barred here. if you 're easily embarassed, these books are not for you.

which is a pity, because Andrew Grey's got it goin on.Come on,you know you want to.
One regret I have is that there are only five stars!! This book is outstanding, what more can I say?! I felt for the heart-breaks and pain of Wes, especially when he was not sure if he would see Anthony again each time Anthony left on a mission. The love he had for Rene the orphan was just heartwarming! I suppose I could complain about the character of Anthony being a little too mysterious and a little on the shady side. But his love for Wes and Rene came through at the end, forming a family with the three of them. I rejoiced; I cried; I laughed. This book doesn't need the "sex" part to make it a great book. I cannot recommend it more!! Read it and enjoy it as much as I did!!
I went back and forth on this one, four stars or five.... I hate to give Andrew anything less that five stars, so I went with that! But honestly I had some issues with this one.

Overall I like it a lot, I loved Wes and Rene, their story was wonderful. Hopeful, loving, interesting, and satisfying. My issue was Anthony. I just couldn't let go of the fact that we never learned exactly what he was doing. He was too mysterious, too fake, too odd. He comes and goes, pops in and out, says mysterious things about his job, but never really says what he's doing. Yes he helps with Rene, and I appreciate that, I really do, something about him just bothered me though. I don't get why he was in Haiti, I wish we either knew more or knew less.

Aside from Anthony, and it may well be just me focusing on something trivial, I really did like the story. I was totally in to the drama of Rene, I learned more about Haiti than I knew before, and it had a fantastic ending.
